Gentle Tooth Extractions in Nampa, ID

Protect Your Oral Health

We’ll always do our best to save your tooth, but there are some cases when the only sensible option is to remove it. If your tooth is damaged or decayed to the point that it’s threatening the health of your other teeth, Dr. Bingham will likely recommend an extraction.

If removing your tooth is necessary, we’ll make sure that you’re comfortable and free of pain throughout your treatment.

Our Extraction Process

Each of your teeth is held in place by a ligament that runs along the outer edge of its socket. To remove your tooth, Dr. Bingham will expand the socket and carefully separate the tooth from the ligament. Rest assured, he’ll apply a local anesthetic to numb your tooth before the procedure so you won’t feel any pain.

After your tooth has been extracted, you’ll need to replace it as soon as possible to avoid further oral health issues. Empty sockets can turn into ideal breeding grounds for harmful bacteria that stick to your teeth and gums. For most patients, Dr. Bingham will recommend a dental implant to restore your smile.

The Process of Receiving Inlays & Onlays

You’ll be able to receive your restorations in as few as two appointments at our Nampa, ID office. After your initial appointment, Dr. Bingham will begin your procedure by giving you a local anesthetic so that you won’t feel any discomfort. After removing any damaged or decayed tissue from your tooth, he’ll take a detailed impression of the structure and send it to a lab. A sealant will be temporarily placed on your treated tooth to protect it from bacteria.

When our office receives your restoration, you’ll return for your final fitting. Dr. Binham will remove the temporary sealant, clean your teeth, and make any necessary adjustments when he fits your inlay or onlay. Once it’s bonded by a strong resin, you’ll be free to leave our office with a restored, fully functional smile.

Candidacy for Inlays & Onlays

Your dentist may recommend inlays or onlays if more than half of your tooth’s biting surface has been damaged. Some common issues that may require this restoration include:

  • Severely decayed teeth
  • Broken or fractured tooth fillings
  • Untreated cavities in tooth cusps

Dr. Bingham will determine your candidacy for these dental restorations during your initial consultation. He’ll also discuss other treatment options if they are necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a tooth extraction take?

Tooth extraction is a fast procedure that’s often completed in a single appointment. Typically, the surgery will take about an hour per tooth. If you’re having multiple teeth removed, you’ll likely need to schedule additional visits.

How long after a tooth extraction can I eat?

You should wait about an hour before eating anything after a tooth extraction. To avoid infecting your empty tooth socket, stick to soft foods and liquids for the first day after surgery. Once the socket has healed, you can resume your normal diet.

Are tooth extractions painful?

Many patients avoid tooth extractions under the impression that they’re painful, but this isn’t really the case. Before removing your tooth, Dr. Bingham will numb it with a local anesthetic to ensure you don’t feel any pain. You may experience some mild discomfort after the procedure, but this will fade quickly and can be easily managed with over-the-counter pain medications.

How long does it take to recover from a tooth extraction?

Most patients recover quickly after a tooth extraction, resuming their normal diet and physical activities in just a few days. However, the tissue won’t fully heal for three to four weeks. As a result, you’ll still want to exercise some caution and avoid anything that could impact the healing process.
