Devices & asset management
Laptops and phones under management, lifecycle, inventory and setup. 11 answers from the ALCO team.
Mobile device management
About this serviceDo we have to be on Microsoft 365?
No. Intune comes with most Microsoft 365 business plans, which makes it the natural choice there. Apple devices are enrolled through Apple Business Manager either way, and Google Workspace clients get managed Chrome and mobile management too.
Will you see our staff's personal data?
No. Management covers settings, company apps and company data. Personal photos, messages and apps on a personal phone are outside the managed part and we cannot read them.
What happens when someone leaves?
Their account is blocked, the device is locked remotely, company data is removed, and we arrange the return or a full wipe. All on the day they leave, logged in myALCO.
Can you manage the devices we already have?
Yes. Existing Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android devices enrol without being reset, in most cases. Where a reset is needed we tell you first.
Who owns the Intune or Apple Business Manager account?
You do. ALCO administers it. If you ever leave, the devices and the configuration stay yours.
Asset tags and asset management
About this serviceIs this included with the help desk plan?
Yes. Every device under the help desk plan is tagged and tracked. It can also be done as a one-off inventory project.
What is on the tag?
The ALCO mark, the words ASSET ID, the number, a QR code and the support contact. No company name or user name, so a lost device does not advertise whose it is.
What does the QR code do?
It opens ALCO support for that device. Staff can scan it to open a request without finding a phone number or a serial.
Can we see the inventory?
Yes. Your asset list is in myALCO with the fields above, exportable when the insurer or the accountant asks.
What about devices that are not computers?
Phones, tablets, monitors, printers, switches, access points and cameras can all be tagged and tracked. Anything with a serial number.
What happens to data when a device retires?
It is wiped to a documented standard, the wipe is recorded against the asset ID, and the record is closed with the date and the method.
